Project Overview

A conceptual high-rise proposal exploring architecture as an ecological system where envelope, structure, and program respond to environmental inputs (light, wind, heat, occupancy) as a unified organism. Investigations into methods of passive heating and cooling, and a large-scale extrapolation of a solar chimney was used as a means for formal generation. By creating an interstitial passage space between the exiting building exterior and the new responsive skin, the second layer skin provides passive cooling and mitigates views into and out of the existing building. Early investigations into methods of adaptive biological responses drove the research trajectory into passive cooling strategies.
